Painting precast figures is usually relegated to the realm of hobby rather than art. Still, this sort of painting is very good practice for other types of painting. Here are some miniatures manufacturers I recommend.

Ann's Ceramics

Ann's Wholesale Ceramics

If you like your miniatures on the large side, this is a good place to shop. The prices are low, and the casting quality is high. The fantasy figures are diverse as well. These castings are made from commercial production molds from other companies.

The Dunken Company

The Dunken Company

If you wish to cast your own pewter miniatures, then visit the Dunken Company. The quality on home cast figures is not always as high as some of some larger casting studios, but if you want a large and inexpensive army, this is the rout to go.

Ral Partha

Ral Partha

This miniature production company is known for its quality castings. It has been around for quite a while, and boasts an ever increasing inventory of figures.

Reaper

Reaper Miniatures

This is a newer company with good castings. If some of their offerings look familiar, it is because they have purchased the rights to reproduce the old castings from the now defunct Heritage Miniatures.
